On March 9th four of Alberta’s talented young chefs gathered at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s Culinary Wing to battle for the top prize in this year’s Alberta’s Young Chef’s Culinary Challenge. These four competitors had 1 hour to utilize their knowledge and an assortment of ingredients to attempt to wow the judges. They were scored not only on the flavour, composition and techniques used to create their dish but also their overall kitchen cleanliness and food handling safety. Jumbo Prawns and Duck Breasts were among the mandatory ingredients these chefs had to incorporate into their dish while having the ability to utilize many other ingredients in the pantry to help them gain an edge. Top prize at this year’s competition not only included some great prizes from our friends at Knifewear in Edmonton but also a chance to represent our province and branch at our national conference later this spring in Niagra. Thank you to all of the competitors and all of our incredible sponsors who made this a great success.
